Glass Coatings

Spectra AR – Broad Band anti-reflective coating that reduces eye fatigue caused by glare. Increase visual contrast and increases the amount of light transmitted through the lens. Excellent for low light conditions including night driving. In addition, dramatically enhances the cosmetic appearance of glass lenses by reducing glare. Lenses have visually pleasing light green cast.

Regular AR – Single layer anti-reflective coating that has similar features as those mentioned above. This lens coating has a visually pleasing blue cast.

Color Coatings – The human eye reacts differently to various colors, each color offering the user different benefits. All color coatings on glass from Opticote are applied in a vacuum chamber for the truest color representation. All color coatings include backside anti- reflective with the exception of Brown #10 and Gray #10. Listed below are available color coatings with common usage/benefits.

Solid Colors

Gray color coatings do not distort colors. Gray #80 is generally the darkest lens available, suitable for extremely bright light and best true color lens.

Brown color enhances contrast but alters natural colors of objects. Blues tend to look washed out while greens are bolder. Lens tint is great for sports and driving or any activity where contrast is important.

Green color lenses are a good everyday color, provide contrast enhancing qualities while only slightly altering natural colors while providing qualities in between what Brown/Gray colors provide. Lighter colrs are cosmetic in appearance and effect.

Blue is a fashion color and is for cosmetic effect only

    • cosmetic in appearance and effect

Rose generally used for cosmetic appearance with no effect as sunwear. Provides contrast enhancement similar to yellow/gold. Does contain 24 karat gold.

Gold provides enhanced depth perception and contrast while altering the natural colors slighlty for activities that require contrast like day or night driving and different sports. Excellent for low light conditions.

Gradients

Gradient colors, like solid color coatings, offer some benefits. Light gradients are cosmetic and also offer relief from bright overhead indoor lighting. The darker gradients coatings do provide sunwear benefits.

Gray gradient offers three options with two thirds of lens color coated, bottom third fading to clear.

  • Gray Dk

Brown Gradient offers three options with two thirds of lens color coated and bottom fading to clear.

Rose Gradient generally used for cosmetic appearance ,not suitable for sunwear. Does contain 24 karat gold.

UV Shield blocks out the most hazardous radiant light and provides optimal visual acuity. Recommended for all clear lenses that are not UV protected.

Mirror Coatings are favored by those who want maximum protection from harmful UVA/UVB rays and to eliminate distracting glare, as well as personalizing their Sunwear. Polarized glass Solid Silver only.
